I've got that "Amazon Prime" account, which gives me 2nd day shipping on any item so entitiled. And with the purchase of my Toshiba DVD recorder, and the shipper Amazon used, my Monday morning order actually arrive Tuesday afternoon! (like FedEx standard overnight...Cool!) Without going into great detail, I have a large library of analog and digital tapes. I tried using my computers and Studio 12 by Pinnacle software to capture the audio and video, and generate a digital master file..... easier said than done! Aside from the "humungus" file generated, there can a number of issues in the process, ranging from computer lock-up to the audio being "out of synch" with the video! So now here comes the Toshiba DVD recorder. From the time I cut open the box, I was recording my first analog tape; tape number one of six, representing my first trip to Brasil, and a total of twelve hours of documentary film. It's been three hours since I started this process, and I'm on the second in this series of recordings. I wish I had done this last year! The unit is easy to use, (well, I found it sort of intuitive?), and through Amazon, with free shipping and no tax, it was a huge bargain-value. I've been in electronics all my life, and I take an engineering view when shopping for this type of gear, so for me, this was a no brainer purchase. By the way..... I've got VHS, Super 8mm and Digital tape to transfer. I didn't want to "clog up the box" with the more expensive "VHS-DVD Combo Recorder." I saved the fifty bucks, and am using my seperate playback units. I'm not a fan of the "all in one" electronic devices. And frankly, only if Toshiba could find a way to add all these playback formats into the one box, would it have gotten my vote. (8mm playback units are rare, and getting harder to find!)
